Fast and Furious 6 May Be A Heist Film
In true Hollywood fashion the 6th installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise is already being developed before the release of the 5th this Friday. However, according to a report at Deadline, the 6th installment may take the franchise in a new direction. It seems that Universal Pictures is looking to change formats from street racing to a heist film. “The question putting Fast Five and Fast Six together for us was: Can we take it out of being a pure car culture movie and into being a true action franchise in the spirit of those great heist films made 10 or 15 years ago,” Chairman Adam Fogelson at Universal said.
According to the report the studio is doing so because they feel that the franchise may be getting stale with each installment too much like the last. ”We’ve heard so many people say, ‘I’ve never seen one, and I’ve never wanted to see one,’ about the Fast franchise,” Fogelson said. Their idea was to change the game. “So if these movies were still about street racing, there was probably a ceiling on how many people would buy tickets. We wanted to see if we could raise it out of about racing and make car driving ability just a part of the movie, like those great chases in The French Connection, The Bourne Identity, The Italian Job,” Fogelson said. They even consider Fast Five to be “the transitional movie”.
We shall have to wait and see. Depending on box office numbers for the 5th installment, with the expanded cast I’m expecting good numbers; the 6th installment could find its way to Development Hell. I’m hoping they can make something good out of it though.
Get ripped like Vin and Paul
