Conan the Barbarian Story and Prep Details from Jason Momoa

The Conan reboot barges into theaters this August 19th. Until then you can take heart in this description of the film straight from the mouth of the Barbarian himself.

"It kind of is an origin story. It's rebuilding and rebooting the franchise...It starts with his birth, what happened to his family, what happened to his father-obviously his father is killed-and him going into the pirating and the thieving and wandering and being the degenerate that he is and then usurping a throne and finding out who killed his father. It's a revenge story, with a little bit a love in there."


Jason Momoa also revealed that he has never seen the original Conan The Barbarian movies, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was only 3 when they came out though, so I guess (despite the emergence of the recent invention of DVDs) we can forgive him that…Depending on his performance in the film.

Personally I hated the ad campaign for the original Wolf Creek. The whole “Based On Actual Events” when it was very, very, very loosely based on an actual case pissed me off. In real life the only thing it had to do with “actual events” is that there was a serial killer in Australia who preyed on backpackers. To me it would be like me making a film “based on actual events” where I wake up in the morning, save the world from aliens, then go back to sleep. It would be based on actual events, because on the day in question I really did get up in the morning and then go back to bed that night. Ok…I’m off of my soap box!

People seem to really like this flick , so here’s a plot synopsis (hat tip to killerfilm) and the new one sheet.

“Lured by the promise of an authentic Australian holiday, backpackers RUTGER, KATARINA and PAUL visit the notorious Wolf Creek crater. Their dream Outback adventure soon becomes a horrific reality when they encounter the site’s most infamous local, the last man any traveler to the vast and isolated region ever wants to meet; MICK TAYLOR (John Jarratt).

As the backpackers flee, Mick pursues them on an epic, white knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland. Only one will remain to be dragged back to his lair to witness the true magnitude of his monstrosity. And if the last man standing is to have any hope of surviving where no one has survived before, he’ll have to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster, and become every bit as ruthless as the monster inside the man.”

No word on a release date.

It’s been reported (and we’ve told you) that Arnold Schwarzenegger will return to The Terminator franchise, but that won’t be his next movie. A new report indicates the former California governor will star in Cry Macho as his next project. His first since leaving Governorship of California.

Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) will direct this drama which he has adapted from the N. Richard Nash novel. The film will have Arnold playing a horse trainer who is fired by his boss and ends up agreeing to kidnap his boss' 11-year-old son from his Mexican ex-wife. The story takes an unexpected turn when the ex-wife is happy to be rid of the young boy.
It is said that Cry Macho will start production sometime this summer, after financing is secured.

Men in Black III filmed Wednesday night at a diner in Williamsburg, Brooklyn reports The Brooklyn Paper, which snapped some photos of production. Check out the photos below!

The paper also revealed that next month, producers will film for a few days inside the Grashorn Building on Coney Island, which is set for demolition.

A source is telling Latino Review the “entire original cast” is apparently attached to the film as well. The story will reportedly revolve around time travel as the previous trilogy featured, but was absent in Terminator: Salvation. It’s unknown what “entire original cast” means, but we can safely assume Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) and Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese in The Terminator) to return, but it’s unknown if Edward Furlong will reprise his role as John Connor.

My question is how do you explain the ageing of Arnold? You can explain away every other character but his (baring some “we wanted him to pass as your grand-pappy” line). I’m excited about the idea of seeing the original cast back on the screen, but that part will take a stretch to pull off.

Dibbuk Box was originally set for a Halloween release this year. Now, according to the studio Dibbuk Box has been pushed back to January 6th, 2012. No word on why. From the synopsis it sounds like it could be good. Hope this is the last change in release dates.

The film will follow Clyde Breneck and his 10-year-old daughter, Em, who purchases an antique box at a yard sale. With the box, Em accidentally releases an ancient spirit that has one goal: to devour her. Clyde must team work with his ex-wife to put an end to the curse.

According to Deadline Starz may be ready to roll out its first original limited series, an adaptation of Dean Koontz's 1985 novel Twilight Eyes. The project, which centers on Slim MacKenzie, who uses his psychic powers, aka Twilight Eyes, to hunt Goblins -- monsters that have the ability to mimic human beings -- is in high-priority development.

This will be the first TV adaptation of a Koontz book in about 10 years. In my opinion they couldn't have picked a better one. This is one of my all time favorites out of Koontz's huge resume of books.

His former agent at WMA, Rob Lee, now head of his own production company and teamed with writer Stephen Tolkin, who adapted two other Koontz books Intensity and Mr. Murder, for TV. Starz has picked up this project and Koontz himself will serve as an executive producer.

India's First 3D Film: Haunted Gets A Release Date

Haunted, starring Mahakshay Chakraborty and Tia Bajpai, is the story of a man who has been given the responsibility of selling a mansion in the hills. When he goes to the house, he realizes that it is haunted. He cannot do anything with the property until he gets to the bottom of this issue. The rest of the film seeks to unravel the mystery.

Look for it in limited release in most of the major markets courtesy of Reliance Big Pictures on May 6th, 2011.

This film about “A group of students investigate a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.” is coming to VOD from Magnet Releasing May 6th. It’s a good foreign film, so in the tradition of Hollywood a US fuck-up…I mean remake of the film is in talks..

“There is a contract negotiation going on,” the director said enthusiastically. “But it’s taking months, just because of details in the contract. There should be an announcement within several weeks.” Based on his tone, it surprised me a little that Øvredal sounded all for this remake. As we know, some directors immediately scoff at the idea of their work being remade, especially when it’s a film that is just being released and hasn’t had a chance to connect with the audience on its own. “They have to make the announcement, but I am very proud that these people want to do the remake,” Øvredal said, referencing mysterious participants whose identities he wouldn’t divulge. “I’m very happy about it.”

I’m glad he’s happy about it. That makes one of us. Watch the original when it’s released on VOD in a little over a week.

Film is currently in pre-production. Pop in the DVD and down a few Royal Hawks (Crown Royal and Coke with Lime Juice over ice) and this could be one hell of a ride!!

The talks of a sequel to the upcoming Thor was news to Director Kenneth Branagh. He told movieline “You are telling me news.” When asked if he would direct a sequel should it be green-lit he stated “Well, I don’t know. It’s is kind of news to me. Here’s what I would say to that: It’s that I’m thrilled they’re that confident. I shall wait for the audience to tell us whether there should be a second one, and then if that’s a nice conversation to be had between all of us, that’d be thrilling. But I’ve got too much Irish superstitious blood in me to assume that Thor 2 will happen. But if Marvel says so, then I guess it must be true,”

At least there’s one person in Hollywood who thinks about waiting to see how a film performs before talking franchise. Personally I’m psyched to see this one! Thor opens May 6th!

Javier Bardem has landed the lead role of Roland Deschain in Ron Howard's upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's book series, The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, Book 1)

The deal is said to contain solidifying Bardem for 3 movies in the series, which will be followed up by a TV miniseries. A well-placed source confirmed The New York Post,

“Bardem has signed on to the first movie and the miniseries, but the intention is that he will star in all three movies and each of the TV series. It's an enormous deal for any actor, but Bardem was always the first choice."

The story follows "Gunslinger" Deschain as he travels through an Old West-like landscape in search of the mythical Dark Tower to save civilization.

The Dark Tower comes to theaters May 17th, 2013. The film is directed by Ron Howard.

I think it’s a great choice for the role, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to the films. I tried but couldn’t finish the books. I felt that the whole series started to go downhill with Wizard and Glass (The Dark Tower, Book 4) and I couldn’t even finish Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower, Book 5). The idea of being bombarded by “thank ee big big” from the speakers of my surround sound and/or local theater just makes my sack crawl up into my stomach.

I cheated and read spoiler reviews on the last two books in the series. These spoilers made me glad that I didn’t read any more of them. It also made me think that King was clutching at straws when he got past The Waste Lands (The Dark Tower, Book 3).

Disney’s recent press release has two things you may want to know. The title is no longer The Avengers, its Marvel’s The Avengers, cuz we didn’t know that.

Also, read this: The cast will be joined by Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother: Season One) as Agent Maria Hill of SHIELD, Tom Hiddleston (Wallander) and Stellan Skarsgård (Angels & Demons [Blu-ray]) who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios’ feature Thor.

This confirms the long-standing rumor that Loki will be in the film (here). We’ll have to wait and see which other villains may rear their ugly heads, but that’s a good start! Here’s a brief synopsis of the film: “When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.”
