Stephen King’s The Dark Tower too big of a project?
Variety is reporting that Universal’s plans for a franchise and TV series of Stephen King’s epic (and overrated in my opinion after book 3) The Dark Tower series may be too costly and ambitious for the studio to pull it off.
Sources tell Variety that the project has run into budgetary complications which have led Universal Execs to rethink their plans. Insiders expect a meeting in the next few days to decide if they should put the project in turnaround, allowing producer Imagine Entertainment to shop it to other studios, or to partner with Universal and take over entirely.
To be clear: Sources tell Variety that right now, Universal is moving ahead and is anxious to get the project up and going. The studio had no comment.
